Success is not a fortune

but only the result of sweat, blood and tears.

seconds to go. The 2012 European Wrestling Championships in Belgrade. The second round. Due to a bout of disorientation, Frank is lagging at 2:3. Local favorite Alexander Maksimovic is being cheered on by 5,000 euphoric fans. Chants of “Makso! Makso!” are starting to echo through the hall, with the local commentator spurring the crowd on. Game over for the dream of reaching the finals? Wait, here it comes: the approach, the jump, the turn, the throw – the flying squirrel is born. And so is Frank’s logo. Maksimovic is in a lever hold, the Serbian audience is in shock. 4:3, Frank makes the finals. And becomes European Champion.

letters. Caritas Fides Spes. The three Christian virtues Love, Faith and Hope have adorned Frank’s lower arm since 2012. It is said that Caritas, Fides and Spes are also the names of three virgin sisters who were persecuted for their Christian faith and died as martyrs in Rome. Of course, Frank has no such plans. But he does have one thing in common with the three saints: he’s passionately fighting for his dream – winning Gold in Rio.

years. That’s how old Frank was when he first encountered the mat. His mother originally wanted to sign up Frank and his brother Stefan for “mommy and me” gymnastics – but there were no free spots. So instead, she took them to a wrestling kindergarten in Musberg. Here, the kids could grapple and practice takedowns all day long – but by official wrestling rules, of course. This is where Frank discovered his passion for the sport. It’s unimaginable what would’ve happened had children’s gymnastics not been oversubscribed. And another reason to love the friendly and familiar environment in Musberg, one of Germany’s wrestling havens – just as Frank does.

Numbers that speak for themselves.
